AIR SPACE EXPLOITATION OVER MRTS-STATIONS IN PHASE-II.
The second phase of MRTS is taken up for implementation for a length of 11.166 KM with 9 stations viz., Mandeveli, Greenways road, Kotuurpuram, Kasthuriba Nagar, Indira Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur, Taramani, Perungudi, Velachery at a cost of Rs.733 crores. Unlike in phase-I, in the development of Phase II, CMDA have the right for the development of Air space above these stations or in the land adjoining the stations for commercial exploitation.
The work of the Architectural / Engineering design for the stations under the scope of Railways and the Commercial Space under CMDA’s scope were awarded to reputed consultants. The Railway is now carrying out the construction of station building and laying of track. Once the Railways finished their station building upto the platform roof level CMDA would taken up the Air space development with due approvals from the Government.
Break up details of proposed Commercial Space Station wise are listed below:
Out of 9 stations, 6 stations from Mandaveli to Thiruvanmiyur are located along the Buckingham canal and the balance 3 stations from Taramani to Velachery are located away from the Buckingham canal.
It is proposed to take up this Air Space Development on BOT basis. Government approval is waited to proceed further in respect of Taramani, Perungudi and Velachery station.
